At Chester Skateland in Chester, VA, we think any kind of skating is great. Whether you’re into quad or inline skating, you’re still going to burn hundreds of calories an hour, reduce your risk for obesity, get fit and have a ton of fun! But if you’re on the fence about which style is right for you, we totally understand that, too.
If you’re just learning how to skate, you should check out some of the differences you can expect from skating on traditional quads versus going with inline rollerblades.
Quad Skates
Quads are the traditional style of roller skating and are great for indoor rinks. You’ll get tighter turns and more stability due to the wider wheel setup. This style of skate is the go-to for skating centers across America and are used in roller derby, jam skating, and artistic skating. You don’t get quite as much speed from quad skates but as an all-around performer, you can’t go wrong with this classic skate style.
Inline Skates
Inline skates are also known as rollerblades and took the skating scene by storm nearly 30 years ago. Inline skates are exactly as their name implies, 4 wheels in a straight line. This style of skate is great for outdoor use including skate parks. Inline skaters can get extra speed and can even pull off some amazing aerial tricks that would be near impossible on quad skates. The downside to inline skates is that they can be difficult to learn in. The lack of built-in stability takes a little extra dedication to pick up but it can be worth the extra effort if you plan on going fast and flying high.
No Wrong Choice
No matter which style of skates you choose, you really can’t choose wrong. It just comes down to personal preference and what feels right for you. Rentals are available during open skating times at Chester Skateland so you can try out different styles before you buy a pair. The important thing is that the more time you spend on skates, the more fun you’re going to have!
