Roller skating in a rink is safer than skating outside–rink floors are carefully made, cleaned, and maintained to make sure that they are the best surface for skating, and the staff at Chester Skateland in Chester, VA work hard to ensure everyone stays safe. Here are some roller skating etiquette rules to follow to make sure everyone has a fun, safe time!
- Watch Where You’re Going! Make sure you always know what you’re skating towards, especially when you’re skating backwards. Look out for slower skaters, people who have fallen, and sudden obstacles or spills.
- Follow the Rules. Each rink will have a specific directions that skaters are expected to go, and other rules specific to that rink. Always follow the directions of skate floor staff and the DJ, and if you’re not sure about what you’re meant to do, ask!
- No Horseplay. Skating is a ton of fun, but be careful! Don’t push or shove, throw things, or try to trip or hurt other skaters. That kind of behavior can lead to serious injuries or being ejected from the rink.
- Dress for Success. Make sure your skates fit properly and are securely laced! Don’t guess on size–ask for help from our staff, and if you think your skates are too loose, ask for another pair. Always wear thick socks to protect your feet, and don’t wear pants that drag the floor, because they could get caught in wheels.
When everyone follows the rules, everyone can have a great time at Chester Skateland. Come down any time we’re open and join us on the skate floor!
